Forgotten Harvest

Working to solve the double-edged challenges of hunger and waste, Forgotten Harvest models an innovative and effective strategy for solving food insecurity in the metro Detroit area.  In 1990, Forgotten Harvest began rescuing food surplus from grocery stores, markets, restaurants, caterers, and more. The food – which would otherwise have gone to waste – was delivered free-of-charge to emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area.  The work has continued, expanded, and evolved, and now includes Forgotten Harvest Farms, where fresh food grows to provide still more nutritious-dense food for those in need.

Forgotten Harvest fights hunger and food insecurity, delivering 144,000 pounds of surplus food per day to local charities five days a week, providing families in need with fresh and nutritious food free of charge.  Pathways Foundation is excited to have partnered with Forgotten Harvest on their capital campaign, helping to secure and operationalize the new larger and more efficient warehouse space.  Pathways is also inspired by the level of research, innovation, creativity and compassion that continues to serve Forgotten Harvest in its ongoing work towards alleviating hunger and managing waste.
